Rabbi Yonan Gewargis 1941-2006




A Short Biography of the Late Raabi Younan Gewargis who passed away in Kirkuk on Tuesday, October 3rd 2006, but buried in his home town Doori at Barwari Balla

Raabi Younan was born in the Village of Doori of Barwari Balla in 1941 from a religious family of more than 13 Metropolitans and many Bishops the last one the Martyr Mar You Allah. Raabi Younan has started his studies in the same village, and enrolled in the Elementary School in the village of Kany Masy in 1961/1962. He was a graduate from Junior High School in Amadia (North of Iraq.)

During the Kurds revolution in the North, Raabi Younan moved to Basrah and lived with his sister. In 1963/1964 he graduated from Fao High School.

In Kirkuk Raabi Younan joined the Assyrian School as a teacher. Lately Raabi Younan was appointed as the First Inspector to the Assyrian and Arabic Languages in the Directorate of Education.

Raabi Younan left behind his loving wife and six children – four sons and two daughters, and many relatives and friends.

Raabi Younan was an honest and excellent teacher at the Assyrian School Kirkuk, he was loved by all his students, the teachers and most of all by the Council of Parents and Teachers (School Committee.)

All who knew Raabi Younan, students, their parents, his friends, teachers and ex-Council members will be very sorry to hear about his death, he will be missed by all in Kirkuk.

We pray the Lord to rest our dear brother Raabi Younan’s soul in his heavenly kingdom, amen, and we express our heartily condolences and sympathy to his bereaved wife, children and all the family, and may God bless.
