Assyrians of Kirkuk and the world lost another great man. May God rest his soul in peace. Our hearfelt condolances to his wife and Children.

Late Raabi Akhtiyar left behind his beloved wife Prokhiya, his beloved sons: Sargon, his wife Janet and family, Sancherib, his wife Mery and family; his beloved dauhters: Mariam, her husband Shmoiel (Chowie) and family, Rachael, Margaret, her husband Robert and family and Marina, her husband Samir and family. Also so many beloved relatives in U.S., Canada, Australia, Iraq and all around the world. As well Raabi Akhtiyar will be very much missed by his so many friends in Illinois (Chicago) and all around the world.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE LATE
† RAABI AKHTIAR BENYAMIN MOSHE †

Raabi Akhtiar Benyamin Moshe was born in those dark days of August 1915 when Turks and Kurds attacked our nation. His family fled along with thousands of Assyrians to Iran first and then to Iraq, ending in the Baquba Refugee Camp. The family together with thousands of Assyrians moved to Mosul where Raabi Akhtiar attended the Assyrian Primary School for two years before moving to Baghdad in 1926, in Baghdad he entered the American Mission School (of Qasha Khando Yonan,) when in 1934 he graduated with honors. He worked in Habbaniya for four years before joining the Iraq Petroleum Company Limited in Kirkuk. He worked in I.P.C. for 36 years and retired in 1974. While in Kirkuk, Raabi Akhtiar in his early twenties as a youth became a very active civic leader, here are some of his activities:

1. Secretary in the Assyrian Relief Fund in Kirkuk.
2. Accountat/Secretary for School Building Committee in Kirkuk.
3. Secretary in School Committees in Kirkuk.
4. Chairman of the Assyrian Aid Society Kirkuk.
5. August 1964, Member Founding Committee of the Assyrian Sports Club Kirkuk and served as Vice President.
6. Member in the Society of Authors and Intellectuals in Iraq.
7. As an adviser and Hon. Member in the Assyrian School Kirkuk Committee for many years.
8. In 1969, ‘Nativity of Christ’ together with other Christmas Carols were written by Raabi Akhtiar and showed on T.V. by the Assyrian School students for the first time in Kirkuk
9. On August 3, 1973, He was awarded with a Silver Juiblee Medal by the Assyrian School.
10. In Kirkuk he was involved in all matters that concerned our Nation, Church and School
11. In 1996, Assyrian National Council of Illinois was established and Raabi Akhtiyar was ????
12. October 24, 1997, He was awarded with a Plaque of Gratitude at the First Assyrian School Kirkuk Reunion.
13. In the United States, since his arrival in Chicago he became involved in producing the Assyrian Church of the East magazine and he was the Assyrian/English Editor.
14. Raabi Akhtiar was a well known personality, he had a lot of respect and love from among all the Assyrians.

Raabi Akhtiar peacefully passed away at home on Friday, November 4, 2004 and His funeral Service was held at Mar Gewargis Assyrian Church of the East, the funeral was attended by all the Priests of the Assyrian Churches in Chicago together with a very great number of people. He left behind, Prokhia, his beloved wife of 66 years,his children Sargon and wife Janet, Sancherib and wife Mary, Mariam and husband Shmoiel, Margaret and her husband Robert, Raheel, Marina and her husband Samir and many grand and grand-grand children, nephews, nieces and a lot of relatives and friends in all around the world.
